DISCLAIMER: Barstool Sportsbook is not available in Kentucky yet. This review is speculative based on the Barstool app in the states where it is live. This page will be updated as we get closer to sports betting launch day in Kentucky.

You may know Barstool Sports from its irreverent sports content, ubiquitous internet videos or various controversies. In addition to that, the media company has its name on an online sportsbook. Following its launch in 2020, the sportsbook now operates in a growing number of states, with the potential to add Kentucky to that list when legal betting launches there sometime in 2023.

Despite being a relatively fresh face on the scene, Barstool has put forth a solid product. While it does lag a bit behind some of its competitors with regard to website design and ease of use, it also offers plentiful promotions and solid odds, including the potential for a welcome bonus of up to $1,000 in bonus cash.

Follow our review as we go into the main benefits and pitfalls you may encounter at Barstool Sportsbook.

Maximizing the Barstool Sportsbook welcome bonus

To unlock the new-user bonus at Barstool, your initial wager must lose. If that happens, you’ll receive a refund in the form of bonus cash that matches the amount of your bet, up to a maximum of $1,000. You’ll then have 30 days to wager the bonus cash before it expires. The bonus cash is not eligible for withdrawal, meaning you’ll need to wager it at least once to meet Barstool’s requirements and see any potential benefit.

So while you do stand to receive some benefit back if your first wager loses, as always, you should only bet what you are willing to lose and never more than that.

When will Barstool Sportsbook launch in Kentucky?

The Kentucky Legislature passed HB 551 to legalize sports betting in the state in early 2023. The law goes into effect on June 28 and mandates that legal sports betting must launch in Kentucky within six months, effectively setting a deadline of Dec. 28.

Provided Barstool receives a license to operate its sportsbook in Kentucky, it could go live with the launch of legal sports betting or at some point after, meaning it could potentially be available at some point in 2023.

Getting started at Barstool Sportsbook in Kentucky

Here is how to create an account at Barstool Sportsbook. Keep in mind that in Kentucky, the minimum age to bet on sports will be 18:

  • Head to the Barstool Sportsbook website and click the login button, then the sign-up button.
  • Fill in the necessary personal details.
    • This will include your Social Security number so that Barstool can verify your age and confirm your identity.
    • At some point in the process, you will also have to grant the app or desktop software permission to access your location so that Barstool can confirm that you are in a legal location to use the online sportsbook.
  • Choose a username and a password for your account.
  • Follow the instructions in the registration email that Barstool will send you. You’ll then be ready to deposit money and start perusing bets.

Barstool Sportsbook KY app and rating

One of the best features of Barstool Sportsbook is its user interface. The platform is well-designed and easy to navigate, with a clean layout that makes it easy to find the sports, leagues, and games you are interested in betting on. The platform is available on both desktop and mobile devices, allowing users to place bets from anywhere at any time.

  • Ease of logging in: 4/5. You can log on via tablet or smartphone by using the facial unlock feature on Android and iOS devices. Once in a while, your info will reset, and you will have to reenter it.
  • Ease of placing bets: 3.5/5. The betting slip is tucked away in a sidebar and is occasionally hard to keep track of.
  • Overall speed: 3.5/5. The website is a little quicker than the app when you are trying to navigate between pages. Of course, your personal internet bandwidth will play a role in this.
  • Parlays: 5/5. Barstool Sportsbook supports a range of single- and multi-game parlays. You can create custom options or pick from pre-made parlays that the sportsbook suggests on its homepage.
  • Single-game parlays: 5/5. As we just mentioned, SGPs are absolutely an option at Barstool and are extremely simple to execute.
  • Overall: 3.5/5. The speed of navigation in the app takes our rating down a little, but, overall, we were pleased with the user experience.

Barstool Sportsbook vs. BetMGM Sportsbook

Both have their strong points and fans, so the one that works best for you may come down to your betting preferences. You can always sign up at multiple online sportsbooks, as well, and place your bets depending on which book has the best odds for any particular wager.

Live betting at Barstool online sportsbook

Barstool offers a range of live betting options. The live betting feature is surprisingly well designed. Even if you miss the opening tipoff, you are still able to place bets on in-game events, such as which will be the next team to score. For instance, Barstool offers moneyline wagers up to the end of the game, with the odds updating in real time.

If you’re looking to place a bet on the Kentucky Wildcats, for example, here’s a list of some of the live wagers that you are likely to encounter when betting at Barstool:

  • Moneyline
  • Over/under
  • Next to score
  • Player props
  • Winning margin
  • Live parlays

Other betting options at Barstool Sportsbook

Aside from betting on the game once it’s started, here is a brief rundown of main other ways you can wager at Barstool:

  • Moneylines: A simple bet — just choose which team you think will win the game, and if you’re correct, get paid based on the odds.
  • Point spreads: Your wager here needs to take the margin of victory into account. Favorites must win by more than the line that Barstool has set for bets on them to win. Otherwise, bets on underdogs win.
  • Parlays: Combine multiple bets on one betting slip. Win an inflated payout if all of your picks are correct, but win nothing if you get even one of them incorrect.
  • Over/unders: Decide if the total number combined score of a game will be over or under a line that Barstool sets.
  • Prop bets: Wager on individual results, such as a player achieving certain stats, which team will score the first touchdown of the longest field goal in a game.
  • Futures: Place longer-term bets such as which team will be crowned champion after a full season of play or who will win the MVP award for a season.

How to contact Barstool customer support

Barstool Sportsbook has several ways to seek assistance. The help/FAQ section leaves a lot to be desired, but there are other support choices at your disposal. One is to use the live chat option on its website. If that isn’t for you, you can try the phone number or email address, both listed on the sportsbook site. It also provides a mailing address. Lastly, Barstool closely monitors its social media accounts, so you can reach out there for support if all else fails.

How to set limits at Barstool Sportsbook

For responsible gambling features, Barstool offers a “reality check,” which reminds you of your spending and time spent during each session. In addition, it also offers the standard limit options that almost every legal sportsbook has. This includes wager limits, deposit limits, and playing time limits to help you control how much money and time you spend at Barstool. Additionally, you can exclude yourself from accessing the sportsbook at all. This self-exclusion period can last from one year all the way to a lifetime ban.

Barstool Sportsbook in-person betting locations and partnerships

Barstool operates several brick-and-mortar sportsbooks in casinos across the country, generally at locations owned by Penn National, Barstool’s owner after it fully acquired the company in 2023. When visiting most of these locations, you will be able to deposit and withdraw funds from your online Barstool Sportsbook account.

  • Illinois: Hollywood Casino
  • Michigan: Hollywood Casino at Greektown
  • Pennsylvania: Hollywood Casino at Penn National Race Course
  • Colorado: Ameristar Black Hawk

Barstool Sportsbook Kentucky FAQs
